The Integrated Health Research Training Partnership (IHRTP) responds to the need for research skills beyond what is offered in traditional academic programs. This Partnership was initiated in May 2006 with the generous support of the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation. It is a collaborative partnership among Capital Health, the IWK Health Centre, Medicine, Dentistry, Health Professions, and Graduate Studies. The Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation is an additional partner. The IHRTP shares and coordinates the educational opportunities offered by each. For information on upcoming events, please visit our calendar of events .
The program audience consists of faculty members new to research, undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, research staff, and health professionals. The IHRTP exists to provide these audiences with the necessary education and skills required to conduct quality health research in increasingly competitive environments.
Each of the six partners oversees individual programs to assist the development of health researchers, however, no single support program has the capacity to offer training with the degree of comprehension required to meet the needs of a multidisciplinary research community with diverse research interests and roles. The creation of the IHRTP is the collective response to this need for a comprehensive support system to build research skills across the disciplines, based on collaboration and the sharing of expertise among the partners.
In addition to sharing existing training opportunities, the IHRTP has developed an interdisciplinary research training program. This program is the result of collaboration among the partners and consists of a series of modules that will be offered September through May. It allows for tailoring of individual educational needs and facilities networking and cross pollination across various disciplines. Check out our training page for more information on our curriculum.
